Colon and Rectal Cancer (Colorectal).
Colorectal cancer is cancer that occurs in the large intestine (colon) and rectum. This type of cancer develops slowly over several years and can be prevented if detected early. Early-stage colorectal cancer usually presents no symptoms.
Colonoscopy is the only test that prevents colon cancer, as polyps can be removed during the procedure before they develop into cancer.
Screening should be performed starting at age 45 in both men and women who do not have risk factors.
However, in patients with risk factors (family history of colorectal cancer, symptomatic patients, and those with warning signs), screening should be performed before age 45.
DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS
Digestive disorders affect millions of Americans each year. These conditions involve the digestive tract, which is also known as the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The GI tract includes the esophagus, liver, stomach, small and large intestines, gallbladder, and pancreas.
